Why training alongside legends keeps me motivated

Every so often, the gym gives you more than just a good workout — it gives you a reminder of why you started in the first place. Recently, I had the chance to meet Jay Cutler, a four-time Mr. Olympia, at Pumping Iron Gym, North London.

I’ve been lifting weights for decades, and now in my 60s, training means more than building muscle — it’s about staying lean, mobile, and focused. For men over 40, this is where the real challenge begins. Testosterone naturally declines, muscle mass starts to slip away (sarcopenia), and motivation can take a hit. That’s exactly why a reset for men at midlife is so powerful: with the right training, nutrition, and mindset, you can turn things around at any age.

Watching someone like Jay still training hard after all these years reinforced something I tell my clients: fitness is a lifelong pursuit, not just a phase. You don’t need to be a pro bodybuilder to take your health seriously. You just need consistency, the right plan, and the drive to show up.

The truth is, men in their 40s, 50s, and beyond can build muscle, increase energy, and optimize hormones — I’ve experienced it myself, and I see it with the men I work with every day. It’s not about trying to look 25 again. It’s about reclaiming strength, confidence, and health that too many men give up on.

Meeting Jay gave me a fresh reminder: if he can keep pushing himself, so can we. And if you’re ready to start your own reset, now is the time.
