We are not in our 20s or 30s, sadly. I wish I was. Once we hit 40 we are likely to have back issues, knee problems and issues with shoulders. We cannot train like youngsters now, but that doesn’t mean you should only do light cardio, walking 10K steps a day. That will not build muscle, which is what we need for longevity.
We need to work around any existing problems and design workouts that you can do without making your back or knee worse. That’s the way I work out. I have orthopaedic problems, but I still lift heavy — I just don’t do anything that aggravates my back and shoulder.
