Do older guys have to avoid heavy lifts?

I keep seeing articles on social media about older guys reducing the weights that they press and curl because of injury potential. This is something I think about often when I'm lifting weights, since I'm terrified about rupturing the biceps tendon, or quads when I do leg extensions. I think tendons do become less supple as we age and things start to dry out, like intervertebral discs and the joints, so I do wonder sometimes whether I should be pressing and curling lighter weights but perhaps doing higher reps? So far I have maintained the heavy lifts despite a couple of injuries over the years such as rotator cuff tears (complete) and back issues. I'd love to hear other people’s views, especially in those over the age of 60.
